I'm Scott Hanneman, a high school Technology and Engineering Teacher, who is passionate about creating meaningful hands-on opportunities for students to engage in STEM. Outside the classroom, I perform magic shows, bringing wonder and joy to audiences.
Fostering practical skills is key. My High School Principles of Engineering class starts with 3D-printed penny catapults, a fun introduction to 3D modeling, precision measuring with a caliper, and begin to think criticaly about mechanical systems.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a B.S. in Technology Education. Since fall 2010, he has been teaching at Wrightstown High School. He has pursued diverse professional growth opportunities, including National Science Foundation and NSA-funded experiences. He has also developed original educational products and has successfully increased the Technology and Engineering curriculum offerings by writing and implementing nine new courses, allowing students to transcribe over sixteen credits and two certificates with the local Technical College.
Scott's teaching philosophy is founded on hands-on, iterative learning, designed to deeply engage students to spark their interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) related fields. In his classroom, learning involves a blend of hands-on projects that encompass designing, making, experimenting, and troubleshooting. He strives to create experiences that not only teach technical skills but also exercise critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for real-world applications. He encourages students to take responsibility for their own projects and supports growing their ability to advocate for themselves.
Key projects in Scott's classroom encourage students to apply their learning to practical problems that benefit others. This approach not only reinforces their understanding of theoretical concepts but also allows them to explore the impact of their work beyond their own learning. When possible, he elevates the relevancy of the educational experience by incorporating the opportunity to earn transcribed technical college credits and industry certificates. He provides connections to local industry through awareness, tours, and support for youth apprenticeship. These efforts provide students with a tangible head start in their chosen fields, thereby helping to bridge the gap between high school and post-secondary academic/career pursuits.
Courses currently taught: Introduction to Technology, Electricity / Electronics, CNC Manufacturing, Woodworking, Principles of Engineering, Automation for Buildings and Manufacturing, Architectural Design, and Product Design.
